Turkey day without the turkey November 28, 2008

We had a fine meal last night — five different cheeses, chicken, cornbread and sausage stuffing, Brussels sprouts, Vichy carrots, mashed potatoes with mushrooms, green beans, cranberry sauce, gravy for everything, vice nice Italian and Spanish wines, and some Market Hall desserts (apple pie and pumpkin ginger bread) along with gelato and ice cream! I think everything came out quite well. Keith took on trussing and roasting the chicken according to Julia Child. I adapted a cranberry relish recipe from Keith’s family by adding cayenne pepper, which I think improved an already tasty dish. The name of the recipe is “spicy cranberries,” which is I think where I got the idea.

For some reason, Karydis was impossible. We had the food on a low table next to the dining table, and she kept going over to pluck bits of food directly out of the serving dishes (bits identical to the bits on her plate). We finally put her in front of Finding Nemo, which was exactly the right thing to do.
